ABSTRACT

The concept of a Uniform Civil Code (UCC) has been a subject of intense debate and discussion in various jurisdictions, including India and several foreign countries. A UCC aims to replace the diverse personal laws prevalent in a nation with a single set of uniform laws governing civil matters like marriage, divorce, inheritance, and adoption, among others. This paper undertakes a comprehensive comparative analysis of the implementation and effectiveness of the Uniform Civil Code in India and its counterparts in selected foreign countries. It examines the historical background, legal considerations, and socio-political implications of the UCC, shedding light on the challenges faced and the lessons that can be learned from these different approaches.
