Abstract
Political parties play a pivotal role in shaping the dynamics of democratic systems. This abstract explores the concept of accountability within political parties and its crucial connection to the effectiveness of democratic governance. By adhering to party manifestos and policy commitments, parties can bolster public trust and ensure the delivery of promised outcomes. Transparency in party funding sources and expenditures is essential to maintain democratic integrity, preventing undue influence from undisclosed funds. Intra-party democracy enhances the democratic fabric by enabling member participation and inclusive decision-making processes. Upholding ethical standards within parties reinforces their credibility and ethical behaviour in leadership. This abstract also highlights the role of political parties in policy formulation, implementation, and checks and balances. Parties serve as conduits for public discourse, shaping narratives, and holding government accountable through opposition roles or self-critique as ruling entities. The engagement of parties in voter education and turnout efforts bolsters democratic legitimacy and representation. By examining international comparisons and best practices, this abstract underscores the diversity of accountability models across democracies. It emphasizes the reciprocal relationship between party accountability and effective democratic systems. Ultimately, this abstract advocates for ongoing research and reforms to fortify party accountability, thereby strengthening the foundation of democratic governance.
